facts and news about electronic transport

Hit the road without any problems

The questions about whether or not it is allowed to go on the road with an electric scooter in the Netherlands concern many people and also prevent this or that person from purchasing an e-scooter. In that article we try to provide some clarity that is not yet visible from the government.

In short, you don't have to worry if you ride an e-scooter that goes slower than 25 km/h. In principle, you fall under the same rules as if you were on a bicycle, e-bike or mobility scooter. To be sure that if an accident happens that you are not liable, it is better to take out third party liability insurance. This is insurance that provides in the event that you are legally liable for damage caused to others.

Perhaps there will be a discussion about whether you should also wear a helmet with a 25 km/h scooter, but for the time being the bicycle rule also applies here. It is of course wise to get help with your scooter. An e-scooter requires a little more of your motor skills than riding a bicycle. Especially in the beginning if you have not ridden an e-scooter much yet.

At the moment we want to be brief about all other e-scooters and electric means of transport that can go faster than 25 km/h: new government rules will be introduced in 2024. All we can do at this point is wait and see. If you buy an e-scooter that can go faster, make sure that it is clearly limited to 25 km/h and cannot be accelerated with a simple button.
